Most publications describe what they sell. The more informative list is the other one, so this is ours, stated plainly enough to be held to.
Not for sale at any price
- Any listing, entry, mention or link for a sunscreen, skincare or cosmetic brand. At any price, in any format, on any page. This is the central exclusion and it is the reason the register is restricted to business facing professional services.
- Product recommendations. We do not make them, so we cannot sell them.
- Affiliate links. None anywhere on this site, and no revenue of any kind is earned from a reader buying anything.
- Sponsored articles, advertorials or guest posts. Not at any price, and not with a disclosure label either.
- Editorial links. No link in any article has been sold or exchanged, and none ever will be. Every external link on this site is nofollow.
- A claim status. No payment can change a status, and no sponsor or register entrant is told in advance what a status will be.
- Prior sight of material. Nobody outside the editorial team sees an article before it is published.
- Removal of accurate material. Not for money, not for a legal threat, not for a promise of future business.
- Position. The register is alphabetical. There is no premium slot, no featured tier, no badge and no seal.
- Category exclusivity. Nobody can buy the absence of a competitor.
- Reader data. The subscriber list is not shared, sold or rented, including to sponsors.
- Advertising space of any kind, including programmatic advertising and paid search. There is no AdWords account and no ad network on this site.
The approaches that arrive anyway
They arrive weekly and they take a small number of forms: a request for a link in an existing article, an offer of a written piece with a link in it, an offer to sponsor a section, a request to be added to a list that does not exist, and occasionally an offer to fund research on the condition of seeing it first. All of them are declined, and none of them is answered individually, because answering generates more of them.
What is for sale, in full
- An entry in the professional register, for formulation consultants, safety assessors, testing laboratories and toxicologists. Business facing, alphabetical, labelled as paid, never linked from an article. Criteria and rates.
- A single labelled sponsor line in the newsletter, at a published rate, with the limits set out on that page.
That is the complete list. If somebody tells you they have bought something else here, they have not.
Why publish this at all
Because a publication that assigns a status to a commercial claim is asking to be trusted, and the reasonable response to that request is to ask who pays. The answer should be checkable rather than reassuring, and the only way to make it checkable is to state the exclusions specifically enough that a breach would be visible.
